Punta del Este is one of Uruguay’s most iconic beach cities, located on the southeastern coast where the Río de la Plata meets the Atlantic Ocean. Known for its luxurious beach life, vibrant nightlife, and natural beauty, it’s a favored destination for both relaxation and high-end experiences.

Location: Punta del Este is in southeastern Uruguay, at sea level, situated between Playa Mansa and Playa Brava.

Founding: The area was officially founded as a settlement in 1907, though its history dates back to early fishing villages. It rapidly grew into an international resort city by the mid-20th century.

Accessibility: Punta del Este is about 140 km (2 hours) from Montevideo by road, and also accessible via Capitán Corbeta CA Curbelo International Airport. It is well connected by bus and ideal for exploring by car or bike.

Best Time to Go​

High Season (Dec–Feb): Full summer mode with beachgoers, events, and nightlife.
Shoulder Season (Mar–Apr / Oct–Nov): Great weather and fewer crowds.

Clothing

Bring light clothes and sun protection for summer. Casual-chic outfits are ideal for nightlife. In winter, pack layers and a good jacket for cooler nights.

Punta has modern clinics. No vaccines required. Travel insurance is recommended, especially in high season.

Uruguayan flights allow, as their restrictions are limited to 50 pounds (23 kg) per person.
